The Castle at Lake Livingston
Have you ever wanted to stay in a German Medieval castle but can’t exactly just head over to Germany for a weekend? Well…all you need to do is head to Livingston, TX northeast of Houston. This 2 bedroom 1 bath home is full of charm. The castle can accommodate up to five guests. Outside of the castle you will find a fire pit, picnic table, and a charcoal grill. Guests of the castle have access to neighborhood amenities such as a private boat ramp, pavilion, smoker, and playground. This is definitely a place to unplug and enjoy nature!

Las Palmas Tree Haus
Located in New Braunfels, TX, this unique rental is one of four other tree houses that surround a shared saltwater pool. Las Palmas Tree Haus is a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath home that can sleep up to 8. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans if you wish to cook your own meals. Under the house, guests will find outdoor furniture to relax outdoors. In addition to the shared pool, all people staying at Las Palmas have access to a cabana, hot tub and children’s playground. It is a short walk down a hill to get to the Guadalupe River. Definitely a cool place to stay and deserving to be on our list of unique rental homes in Texas!

1894 Pullman Train Car
Sleeping in a train car really isn’t THAT unusual (though certainly more rare in 2022!). But sleeping in a nearly 130 year old train car that has been fully converted to a rental home? Now THAT is a unique! To add to the history, Theodore Roosevelt rode in this exact car! It is fully decorated in decor the matches the 1890’s. This is not a family lodging, but definitely a great place if you are looking to get away for a weekend in beautiful Fredericksburg, TX.

The Bank at Ten Bits Ranch
The West Texas desert is filled with unique lodging opportunities. Ten Bits Ranch may take the cake with their recreation of an Old West Town. Each building is designed to look like an Old West building. There is a bank, saloon, general store and more. Ten Bits Ranch has everything that you need to be comfortable (WiFi, AC, gas & electric heat, satellite television). Ten Bits Ranch has some of the best views of the famous Big Bend stars. Since Ten Bits Ranch is completely off grid and located on 550 private acres, there are no neighbors and no ground lights to obscure the perfectly dark night sky. If you are looking for something truly different, Ten Bits Ranch just may be it.

The Silo House at Laughing Llama Farm
How cool is THIS?!? The Silo House is a renovated grain bin moved from a family farm 50 miles away to it’s current location, The Laughing Llama Farm in Troy. The Silo House has an upstairs loft with a queen sized bed and a queen sized sofa sleeper downstairs with a full bathroom with shower downstairs. They have a pond just outside your door that is stocked with bass and perch. Bring your fishing equipment! If you forget yours, they have some to lend you! There is a private outdoor shower under the stars. They also provide you with feed upon arrival with instructions on when and how to feed the llama!
Temple, Waco, Belton, and other cities are just a short drive away. But at the The Silo House at Laughing Llama Farm, you will feel like you are worlds away! A list of unique rental homes in Texas wouldn’t be complete without this silo home!

Bartlett National Bank

How cool is this?!? You can actually stay in an old bank that originally opened in 1904! Many of the original aspects of the bank were saved and restored, such as the vaults, teller windows, and safe deposit boxes. The bankers’ offices are the bedrooms, the manager’s office is the study, the vaults are a wine cellar and a pantry and the lobby has been transformed into the living room. The detail in the restoration in impressive.
Bartlett is located in central Texas and claims to be one of the most photographed towns in Texas. Salado is just 12 miles away and Georgetown is just 15 miles away. There is shopping along the main drag in Bartlett and the “Neighbors” coffee shop is right next door from the bank. Booking a stay at this former bank will surely be memorable and something to tell all your family and friends about!

The Station

OK, now this is pretty cool. This 1920’s gas station has been restored and transformed into a 1 bedroom lodging that will sleep up to four. There is even some cool history here…the infamous Bonnie and Clyde made this gas station one of the frequent stops back in their day. The original brick walls, tin ceiling, and penny floor really make this place unique. The attention to detail with their design aspects are awesome. And what’s best? You get your own private mini golf course in the back yard!! If you are looking for unique rental homes in Texas, this definitely checks all the marks!

Lariat Springs

This vacation rental is beyond words. Look at those views. That pool. Those patios. Everything about this home is simply breathtaking. Located south of Canyon Lake in New Braunfels, TX, Lariat Springs is a 5 bedroom home that will sleep up to 14 guests. It is a newer construction, with the home being completed in April of 2020. It still has that new home smell! Everything about this home is top notch!
I could type all day long, but I think the pictures speak for themselves. Click here for more info and photos on Lariat Springs!

Lake LBJ Castle

Words cannot describe how amazing this 14,000 square foot castle really is. Perched on a hill in the middle of Texas’ Hill Country, this 6 bedroom vacation rental will sleep up to 12 guests. This property features many other perks such as game room, balconies with 50 mile views, castle themed gazebo with charcoal grill, Koi pond, a stream with hidden crystals and gems, multiple balconies, and 133 acres to explore if you desire.
Is this castle excessive? Absolutely. Do you want to stay here anyway? Also absolutely! What a cool place for a night or two getaway with your extended family, friends, work, etc. You only live once!

Heavenly Hideaway

This is the SECOND unique vacation rental that we found in the small town of Bartlett. Heavenly Hideaway is a historic Presbyterian Church that was originally built in 1899. It has now been transformed into a two bedroom home that will sleep up to seven guests. When doing the transformation and renovation, the owners took great care to ensure most of the church was restored to its original condition. There are modern amenities though, such as wifi and A/C. Small weddings are not only allowed, but encouraged!
